Mistaking a Sanddollar for the Moon
[Number Five] First Stage of Denial: Confusing a Sand Dollar on a Table with the Moon. Thinking that one would always able to wish for wishes. A series of five drawings. A pale sand dollar appears grey in the light of this moon. Pure form on a dark table. The five cuts that mark it do not quite balance the five fronds that grace its center. All is gentle in this light. No dust, no bitter meaning, no history of Carthage burning, of Dido on the beach and her weeping people.
